Spring Sky - Recent Paintings by Blawnin Clancy & Rayleen Clancy

Press Release - April 2002

Dánlann Shiobhán Uí Fhlannchadha is the name of the new Joan Clancy Art Gallery which has opened in the Ring Gaeltacht just outside Dungarvan.

Currently on exhibit is Spring Sky, a collection of new paintings by Blawnin Clancy and Rayleen Clancy who have been steadily gaining fine reputations as artists over the past few years.

Both employ oil and mixed media on canvas, and display their own distinctive styles. Their work forms part of many corporate and private collections in Ireland, the United States and South Africa

Blawnin uses a lot of fine brushwork of meticulous intensity, producing work that is soothing and tranquil. She finds inspiration in her surroundings by the sea in the Ring Gaeltacht. Her paintings depict the coastline, focusing on where two elements merge: Water, a transitional mirror of the sky and land and Rock, the land that is carved and shaped by the slow process of evolution.

Blawnin studied at Crawford College of Art & Design, and graduated from the National College of Art & Design.

Rayleen is a very strong figurative painter featuring essential images that are familiar, yet presented in a new and refreshing way. Her work depicts adolescent girls on the brink of adulthood, and explores themes of identity, appearance, self-awareness and youth culture. She studied Film at Dun Laoghaire College of Art & Design. After graduating she received a scholarship to study Fine Art Painting at the prestigious San Francisco Art Institute. Her young sister Rosemary (15) and friends feature as models in some works.

Collecting art is the new fashion. Latest trends indicate that young professionals with disposable incomes are often willing to splash out on a painting by an up-and-coming artist, and have a piece of work that will provide enjoyment and may well increase in value. The Gallery situated on the coast road between Coláiste na Rinne and the Cunnigar Beach, is well posted.

The next exhibition to be presented by Joan Clancy Gallery will be a collection of oil paintings by London based Olive O'Callaghan Opening June 21st and running until July 4th.

Originally from Dundalk, Olive is a graduate of the Winchester School of Art , has been shortlisted for the IDA Branson Bequest Memorial Exhibition Award in Somerset, and has worked as Visiting Lecturer at Limerick School of Art. She has exhibited in the RHA Gallery in Dublin, in Barcelona and Avila in Spain etc. And Joan Clancy says 'her work is beautiful and she is an artist worth investing in.'.

Look out for more interesting exhibitions at Joan Clancy Gallery. She has a lot of things in the pipeline.
