Shane Finan Born in Co Sligo in 1985, he graduated with Honours in Fine Art from Sligo IT in 2008. "An Alternative to Packing is an internal view of a storage space, separated from its role as a utility by its mundane and gloomy form. It becomes an ambiguous corridor representing the emptiness represented by large storage sheds that are places without inherent identity or memory attached to them. The idea is to create a soft, open painting from a strongly industrial image." Final explains. "I admire many modern painters including Kerry-James Marshall, Karen Kilimnik, Eva Struble, Yvan Salomone and Franz Ackerman. My painting style began through admiration for the work of the neo-expressionists in the 1980s, Martin Kippenberger, Albert Oehlen, David Salle, for example".
