"My wall hangings consist of several layers of textile which I heavily stitch with a variety of threads to achieve a distinct texture. I use a mix of self-dyed and commercial fabrics. I also paint on my fabrics, sometimes before, sometimes after stitching, to add extra interest".

Buursma's work is recognized internationally; two of her pieces have been selected for the RDS National Crafts Competition 09; she was invited to exhibit at the European Quilt Association Exhibition in Antwerp 08. She exhibits regularly in Ireland, Belgium and the Netherlands and has won many prestigious awards; her work forms part of important private and civic collections.
