Cassie Kirby
Cassie Kirby graduated from Waterford Institute of Technology with a BA Honours Degree in Visual Arts (2011) and was the recipient of the Cork Printmakers Bursary Award having been shortlisted
by both WIT and Cork Printmakers.
"My work revolves around traditional oil portraiture and delicate drawings, with dark sometimes humorous undertones used to distort meaning" explains Dungarvan born Cassie.
"I am predominantly inspired by traditional art practices and the work of the old masters, and enjoy incorporating contemporary imagery and work aesthetics to enhance my use of traditional medium".
This up and coming young Gaeltacht artist participates in shows around Ireland and her work forms part of important corporate and private collections.
Cassie's current pieces are inspired by celebrity subcultures and the ephemeral nature of celebrity. "The fleeting nature of one's career or popularity is common place so I wanted to 'pause' to create small little studies that capture a moment or person that will undoubtedly in time be forgotten." She explains.
