Originally from a farm in Co Laois, Anne Whelan spent many of her childhood summers visiting extended family in An Rinn. Over time, her connection to the area deepened, and she eventually settled in Helvick after meeting and marrying her husband Michéal, where they raised their family together.

Her creative spirit has fostered a lifelong appreciation for the arts and she has explored a wide range of creative courses and classes, though in recent times her focus has turned increasingly towards painting. She draws inspiration from the natural beauty that surrounds her, particularly the ever-changing colours of the sky and sea, and the organic forms found in the landscape.
