Joan Clancy Gallery are looking forward to Seoda Rúnda -Secret Treasures an exciting exhibition of new paintings this July by Blawnin Clancy and Rayleen Clancy, exploring the hidden histories, folklore, and natural landscapes of County Waterford.

Pictiúir nua le Blawnin Clancy agus Rayleen Clancy, ag breathnú ar stair rúnda, béaloideas, agus tírdhreacha nádúrtha Chontae Phort Láirge.

The exhibition invites viewers to engage with the idea of secret treasures, both tangible and intangible, embedded within the landscape. Through their distinct practices, the artists evoke an otherworldly sense of place, where memory, myth, and imagination intertwine.

Blawnin’s work explores themes of journeys, discovery, and transformation. Inspired by swimming, walking, and sketching along Helvick Head and the coastline of An Rinn in the Waterford Gaeltacht, her paintings are built through layering, sanding, and resist techniques. The disrupted surfaces reveal dappled, ghostly figures that hover between presence and absence. These forms suggest traces of past energies creating a sense of mystery.

Rayleen’s paintings merge folklore and imaginative storytelling into vibrant, intricate compositions that explore themes of coexistence, transformation, and adaptation from non-human centric perspectives. Inspired by the biodiversity of County Waterford’s woodlands, coastline, and hidden environments, her work re-imagines these places as timeless realms where hybrid creatures exist in symbiotic harmony.

Joan Clancy Gallery, established in 2001 is located in the beautiful and scenic Gaeltacht of An Rinn overlooking Dungarvan Bay in Co Waterford. It is where Joan and Tom and their daughters Blawnin, Rayleen and Rosie made their home.
